The Ready School Assessment (RSA) is a planning tool that provides schools with specific, clear, comprehensive information about their strengths and challenges — the kind of information that is essential in creating a supportive educational environment for entering children.
Here's how the RSA works:
Step #1: Complete the Questionnaire
Using the RSA Questionnaire, members of your school's team evaluate the school on eight key dimensions of readiness:
Leaders and Leadership
Family, School, and Community Partnerships
Each dimension has 11 to 21 indicators — policies and practices that support and promote best practices of ready schools.
Step #2: Generate Online Profile
The team then uses a password-protected RSA Online Profiler to convert their scores into a Ready School Profile. Displayed in a clear, easy-to-read graphic format, the profile shows your school's relative strength on each dimension of readiness. It also provides details on 23 sub-dimensions — all designed to provide specific focus points for school improvement plans and activities.
Step #3: Follow Up With HighScope Training and Support
Locate resources and services that can help strengthen your school's ability to promote the learning of all children. HighScope can support you through this process by providing training on how to use the RSA tool, helping you to understand your RSA Profile, and guiding you through the development of an action plan. Please contact Nan Mastie at 734.485.2000 ext. 224 or, by e-mail at email@example.com, to discuss your training needs.
Step #4: Repeat the RSA Process At Regular Intervals
RSA is intended to be part of an ongoing cycle of evaluation and improvement.
The Ready School Assessment Kit contains everything your school's assessment team will need to learn about and use the RSA. Each kit includes
RSA Administration Manual
Five Ready School Assessment Questionnaires
