Education Through Movement - Summer Training Course
This one week course will present information and strategies for success for you and your students as you work with Common Core Standards. We will emphasize building the process for encouraging problem solving, communication, representation, connections, vocabulary and comprehension in Language Arts and Math.
This one-week course promotes a basic understanding of the Education Through Movement (ETM) program. Key areas include HighScope movement and music key developmental indicators, fundamentals of motor development, an effective teaching model – Separate, Simplify, Facilitate – and successful methods for integrating movement and music into other curriculum areas. Teachers and curriculum specialists who work with students of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Major Course Components:

Experience and develop activities in alignment with Common Core Standards for Language Arts and Mathematics

Understand how to use the ETM process that extends thinking, and why this process allows students to gain a deeper understanding to support the rigor of the Common Core Standards

Strategies that align with Common Core Standards for ALL learners

Physical development: locomotor, nonlocomotor, fine motor movements and why it is important for children to develop their bodies and the relation to building academic success

Movement and Music Training to facilitate success for ALL learners

Effective approaches for integrating academic subject matter with physical activity

Curriculum-appropriate activites that can be used during classroom time and transition periods for all educators

International folk dance progressions organized from a developmental base

ETM Certification:
Participants interested in Education Through Movement Teacher Certification will be required to attend this course for two summers and participate in two online courses that will be held between the two summer trainings.
